In early 2021 we met Rikke who was writing a Christmas book for children based on the Danish Christmas tradition about the magical little Nisse. Mischievous creatures that live in the North Pole with Santa. The brief was to build a website where she could promote and sell her flagship product - The Christmas Nisse book. Rikke also had a collection of wonderful crafts that needed showcasing too.
The first step was to undertake research into the market and discover the best possible solution based on Rikke's needs and budget. It became clear that due to the relatively small number of products available, we needed to create a site that was very easy and quick to navigate so that users could see information about the products as quickly as possible and then purchase just as quickly. We also discovered that Rikke would be managing the backend herself and therefore we needed to use a platform that would be easy to update and manage moving forward. We decided to use Shopify due to its simplicity and ease of use for Rikke.
Once we agreed on Shopify we tried a few different themes as a starting point but after a few different options, we decided to go forward with a simple and minimalist style. The book launch contained a number of custom graphics that had been created for the book and we wanted to incorporate this subtly throughout the site. In addition, we created a warm and festive colour scheme and brand that complimented the book design. Red flashes and accents are present on the site to add some excitement without becoming too dominant on the screen.
Rikke provided us with the content and we worked closely together to create a site that told her story and the story of the Christmas Nisse.
After the initial scope was completed we agreed to add a couple of nice features that really helped compliment the overall brand. We integrated the company’s Instagram feed onto a banner on the homepage. This would allow a regularly updated feed of business and user-generated content that tied in nicely with Rikke's marketing strategy.
The site has since gone live in preparation for the Christmas rush and we can't wait to see the site become a valuable tool in her business.
This project was really a joy to work on and Rikke was fantastic to work with. We look forward to working together in the future to enhance her business even further.
